Paralympic Gold Medalist to Host Archery Master Class

| Danielle Brown, a Paralympic gold medalist, has been invited to present an Archery Master Class to pupils on Wednesday 7th November. Danielle, who lives in Telford and trains at Lilleshall’s National Sports Centre, suffers from reflex sympathetic dystrophy in the feet, and competes sitting down or leaning on a stool. She burst onto the international scene in 2007, winning double gold at the World Championships aged just 17. She followed this by winning Paralympic Gold in Beijing 2008, a Gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games ‘able-bodied’ competition and a further Paralympic Gold in London 2012. Whilst competing internationally, Danielle also graduated in 2010 with a First Class degree in Law at University of Leicester, she is a true inspiration to our students. Ellesmere has invited the three-time World Champion to present a lecture on competing at the Olympics and what is required, physically and mentally to succeed. Ellesmere pupils will be able to attend the lecture and will also receive first hand coaching from the inspiring Olympian. Tom Rylands, Head of Ellesmere’s Shooting Academy said, “This is the exciting part of our leadership initiative which provides pupils with the opportunity to learn leadership through collaboration: through team sports, the Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. We are so pleased that Danielle has agreed to host this Master Class for our pupils, it’s a great opportunity for them to not only meet and be coached by a Paralympic athlete, but to also gain an insight into their lives” |
