Celebrating A-Level Success

| Students at the School celebrate their A level success with an excellent set of grades. Overall performance saw 96% of students achieving pass grades including some top class individual results. Nearly 50% of grades were the top A*/B grades with a pleasing number of top grade A*s.Whilst heartfelt congratulations go to all students there were some particularly notable performances that are worthy of specific mention.Head Boy, Christian Steele from Much Wenlock and Head Girl Ruslana Rashchupkina from Donestsk, Ukraine, achieved top grades with Christian gaining two A* grades in Chemistry and Physics and an A grade in Mathematics. Ruslana secured an A and two B’s in Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Christian intends to read Natural Sciences at University College, London and Ruslana is reading Biochemistry at Bristol.William Mapstone from Tilston achieved A grades in Physics, Maths and Chemistry and will pursue Mechanical Engineering at Bristol. Mike Pan achieved 3 A levels including two A* top grades in Maths and Further Maths and will follow Civil Engineering at Imperial, London. An impressive 3 A grades and a B was gained by Victoria von Hoven from Shawbury in Business, History, General Studies and English Literature respectively. Vicky will read Business Management at Nottingham Trent.These A level results follow on form those that our IB students received earlier in the summer. 23 students sat the International Baccalaureate Diploma this year with over 50% achieving the higher level at above 30 points, which is equivalent of 3 A* grades at A Level. The average overall score for the International Baccalaureate candidates equated to three A grades at A Level, with local girl Caroline Hayes from Ellesmere achieving a top score of 41 points, which is an equivalent of 4 A* grades at A Level. She moves onto study Medicine at Newcastle. Another notable result was that of James Morrison from Overton, with an equivalent A level grade of over 3 A*s who will now read History at Birmingham.Mr Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, said ‘It is pleasing to see our students continue to secure top grades and all who wish to progress to university being able to do so. Recent publications of university destinations have been misleading as they omit students who do the IB or choose to go to study abroad, which an increasing number are choosing to do. At this time of year both A level and IB can be acknowledged and therefore we celebrate all of our students’ academic achievements today. All our students completing their studies with us deserve this success. Credit must also go to the excellent work of our teaching staff and of course to parents for their constant support and encouragement. |
