Thursday, 4 December 2014

A young Ellesmere horse rider has qualified for the Children on Horses World Championships.

Will Edwards, a pupil at the College, was the only home nation athlete to qualify for the FEI Children's International Classic Final to be held in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, from the 26th until the 31st January 2015.

He qualified for the World Championships following an impressive set of performances at FEI Children on Horses events, which have secured his selection this month. Will, 14, has successfully qualified alongside 16 of the world's best juniors who will take part in the competition.

Will said: "I feel honored to represent Great Britain at the FEI Children's Final and compete with other top riders my age. I feel well prepared for the event and will enjoy the trip over to Mexico".

The final is unique in format, in respect of the fact that the host nation will provide all the horses for the competition. Bringing two horses to the Final, a draw takes place to identify which of their two horses they are to ride.

The goal of the series is to provide up-and-coming youth with the encouragement and opportunity to experience international competition at the FEI level. Both the qualifiers and the final are set at a maximum height of 1.20m.
