A young Shropshire singer songwriter has beaten thousands of other hopefuls to reach the finals of a national musical talent competition. Henry Maybury, of Shrewsbury, progressed through regional and Midland auditions and will now compete in the grand finals of the acclaimed Open Mic UK 2012 competition, to be held at the O2 Arena in London in January. Henry, aged 20, is a former student of Ellesmere College and is currently studying music with musical theatre at Chichester University and will perform a medley of his own songs and cover versions, in front of an audience of thousands in London. Open Mic UK 2012 is a national talent competition that searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or their own original material. Chris Grayston, events coordinator for Open Mic UK said: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance and also the potential to become a professional recording artist.” Henry added: “ I have worked incredibly hard at writing and performing my own songs to get this far in the competition, but now I am really looking forward to the finals, which of course may be a real challenge, but will also provide me with an unbelievably exciting chance to showcase my talents". The final will provide Henry with an opportunity to impress not only judges such as national radio DJ’s Annie Nightingale and Charlie Hedges, but also many guests from record labels, agencies and important representatives of the entertainment industry. |
