Ellesmere continues its focus on the development of each child as a unique individual, as all pupils participate in a day of personal, social, health and economic education. The purpose of the day is to make children aware of their own safety and wellbeing, and that of others around them. Tutors and teachers work alongside visiting speakers to provide pupils with an insight into; teambuilding, fitness, diet, internet safety, body awareness, drug awareness, study skills, exam survival, road safety and self-defense amongst other key areas. The courses are tailored specifically to each individual year group and cover aspects of PSHE that are relevant to their age. External speakers; Malcolm Farrer of County Council Road Safety, Charlotte Bram of Springback and Self-Defense instructors Lorraine and Shane Oliver visited the school and conducted classes of small group sizes as part of the day. Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education has, in various forms, been part of the national curriculum for schools in England since 2000. Sharon Owen, Head of Lower School [Years 3 to 8], said; "Pupils take part in a varied, interactive and exciting day enjoying presentations, group work and visiting speakers. The Programme is carefully coordinated by senior staff to ensure that all subject areas are visited at pertinent times through the pupil's time at Ellesmere. It is always an informative, fun day and one enjoyed by all our students.". |
