An Olympic Bronze Medalist will officially open the new all-weather surface at Ellesmere College, on Saturday 17th November. Emily Maguire was part of the 2012 GB Hockey team who won a Bronze medal at the London Olympics. The defender, who has made more than 25 appearances for Great Britain, made her debut as part of the team that won a historic silver medal in February in the Champions Trophy, Rosario, Argentina. Emily started playing hockey at five, playing for Kelburne Hockey Club in Paisley throughout her teenage years before moving south. She now plays for Reading and trains with the British team. Andrew Thelwell, Marketing Executive at the school said: "To have the opening ceremony performed by one of this country's top hockey players is a great honour and I am sure Emily will help to inspire a new generation of aspiring Olympians from the school." During her visit to Ellesmere, Emily will also host a number of coaching sessions with the Junior Hockey teams, offering some tips and talking to the pupils about her experiences. |
