Ellesmere pupils will be among those marching at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on November 11. The 28 teenagers, aged from 14 to 18, will be representing the entire Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Association, which has more than 250 contingents totaling over 40,000 cadets throughout the UK. The CCF represents the Army, Royal Navy, RAF and Royal Marines. Pupils will be joined in the parade by their leader Lieutenant Colonel Martin Clewlow. "Not only is it the Queens Diamond Jubilee year, but it is also the 60th Anniversary of the Combined Cadet Force Association, so this is a wonderful honour" he says "Naturally there is great excitement at the school about our involvement in the impending Cenotaph parade. The aim of the CCF is for people to have fun, but we also want them to be challenged" In preparation, the cadets have been busy practicing their marching skills over the past few weeks and have completed a range of expeditions as part of the Duke of Edinburgh and CCF awards. |
