Pupils Perform In National Shakespeare Festival

| Pupils from Ellesmere College took part in the UK's largest youth drama festival this week, with over 700 schools and 17,000 children performing in theatres around the country. The Shakespeare Schools' Festival is a nationally organised, annual celebration of Shakespeare's work, with each school being invited to perform a 30 minute version of one of the Bard's plays. Ellesmere were one of four schools performing at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, where they staged 'The Winter's Tale'. This is one of Shakespeare's later plays and is a moving story of one man's jealousy which threatens to destroy everything he loves. Ellesmere pupils from Years 5 to Year 11 were involved in the production, Margaret Hutchings, Head of Media, said, "The Festival is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to experience Shakespeare first hand and perform on a professional stage, as well as having a great deal of fun in the process. Taking part in the festival has given us the opportunity to participate in workshops for teachers and pupils, as well as working with experienced actors and directors from The National Theatre and The Central School of Speech and Drama. This has been a great addition to the Arts curriculum at Ellesmere College". |
